"The first AI-generated mockumentary about crypto regulation examines the "War on Crypto" through satire and synthetic media." is the description of "A Trillion-Dollar Hit Job". Alex Konanykhin, the executive producer of the mockumentary and CEO of Unicoin Inc. said: "We wanted to show how the SEC's approach impacted the crypto industry." There is an interesting quote within the first minute of the mockumentary. The setting is quite different from that of the 19th century Berlin Conference but the goal is the same - power and control: "If we don't kill this baby in the crib, we're obsolete." (One could argue that the moon landing phenomenon was all about power and control.)
Mockumentaries are a great (and safer) way of reminding us "about the absurdity of life" As the opening paragraph of the ew.com article tells us: "Truth can sometimes be stranger (and funnier) than fiction...documentaries make for such compelling watches in their observation of human behavior...filmmakers take advantage of the format with fourth-wall-breaking "mockumentaries.""
When I recently watched the fourth-wall-breaking moon landing mockumentary by Berliner Simon Meyer, I commented that "Now, I'm thinking of a mockumentary of the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885. The anniversary is coming up on February 26th!"
I think a mockumentary about the Berlin Conference would be good for reminding us about the absurdity of the conference in particular and colonialism in general. As Trevor Getz points out in his article on the conference: "It was a conference about Africa, but happening in a room in Berlin, Germany. There were zero Africans, and only two of the attendees had ever stepped foot on that continent. The conference included a bunch of European men representing 12 countries in Europe, plus an American representative and one from the Ottoman Empire. The room was dominated by a gigantic map of Africa. The men at the conference had taken it upon themselves to divide up Africa between their respective countries."
So much fodder for a mockumentary! But wait, there's more, and this is maybe where I would focus my mockumentary on: Menelik II, the future Emperor of Ethiopia. In fact, maybe the mockumentary should begin with Menelik's letter:
“I have no intention at all of being an indifferent spectator, if the distant Powers hold onto the idea of dividing up Africa… Since the All-Powerful has protected Ethiopia up until now, I am hopeful that he will keep and enlarge it also in the future, and I do not think for a moment that He [God] will divide Ethiopia among the other Powers.”
Maybe Menelik II rightly sensed what the character in the War on Crypto mockumentary expressed: "If we don't kill this baby (of colonialism) in the crib, we're obsolete."
