Man on Computer

Mr C's Story

** This is one in a series of interviews with more "mature" crypto holders about their motivations and views about cryptocurrencies, enjoy!**

Mr. C is one of the members I've met and made friends with in the $WSB crypto community, and I asked him some questions about how he got into crypto and where he was going, sharing a bit of advice on the way.

* What made you first look into cryptocurrencies?

"I was interested in new tech and I like playing with things. BTC was $30 when I first bought some in 2013."

* What were your first impressions of Crypto?

"I used to play a game called Secondlife which had its own in world currency called Linden Dollars which could be traded out of world for real $U.S. Dollars on a now closed site called virwox so knew BTC could gain traction along with other cryptos. "

* Why did you leave Second life? (I played SL for a few months.)

"I used to own my own region but got bored not played it for years! Started playing World of Warcraft instead but also got bored!

* I played World of Warcraft for over thirteen years until I realized I was missing real life and quit cold turkey, so I understand!  Did you feel intimidated by the stigma that crypto was for "the younger generations?"

"No stigma at all as I have always been anonymous online, so age didn't matter then. Seems to matter more now to be honest..."

* Do you have any crypto holdings in a specific account for "retirement" (i.e. there are accounts where you can invest your retirement funds in cryptocurrencies)

"I have a fair bit in cold storage long term hodl (Hold On for Dear Life) and I have a set amount I play the market with, split between CEXs and DeFi. Some profits go to cold storage some goes to fiat."

* But no holdings in any of the pre-structured "retirement" accounts that advertise to invest your retirement in crypto?

"No retirement accounts - not your keys, not your crypto! I do staking on DeFi and trading crypto on CEXs I have, earning interest just sitting there and they have an earnings thing for it."

* What do you feel are the main mistakes you make along the way, and what did you learn from these mistakes?

"Mistakes, I made a few.....(song there I am sure!) Gambling BTC on satoshi dice was pretty stupid. Not hodling is still an ongoing mistake, as is holding too long!! I used to do futures using cross margin which has sucked funds away, so I always do isolated trading now so I don't need to worry a trade can take all my funds."

* How do you feel you've grown since venturing into the crypto world?

" I have learnt not to sweat the dips in the market they come and go and as a believer in crypto I don't worry about things. The future is bright for sure."

* What advice would you give other "mature" people looking into joining the crypto world?

"Advice for old and young joining crypto would be never invest more than you can lose. Learn by doing with small amounts. Join crypto groups with a good reputation, and NEVER give out your seed phrase to anyone!!! Treat everyone who sends you a private message as a scammer is also a great bit of advice. And no, if you send someone 0.5 BTC they will not send you 1 BTC back!!"

Thank you Mr. C. for having this conversation with me, and for being so helpful when I need it! I wish you the best in our shared adventure!

Adventures of a Crypto Grandma

There are a few Gen X-ers that embrace the world known as "Crypto" but by-and-large, it's viewed with suspicion by anyone over the age of 35. This is my journal of my adventures as an average consumer living on a semi-fixed budget into the world of cryptocurrencies and learning the terms, NFTs, the ups and downs, and the people behind the scenes, the websites, the scams and how to avoid them, even if you're not very tech-savvy. Of course no adventure is without risks, use your brain.
