I have a dilemma and no amount of thinking about it helps.
What is the dilemma I hear you ask, well to tell or not to tell. To tell about crypto and what we do and how we are making (sometimes losing) money. Recently on another work stint someone asked me 'what does your husband do?' Well the easy answer I guess is we are landlords as we rent out our house but just the one not a whole portfolio! So that does not sound right. Saying retired makes him sound older than his years. Suggesting he is trading crypto from the living room and researching new projects to invest in makes no sense to most, so what do you tell people?
As for me I was asked how often I do these work stints in the UK and usually the answer would be once a year, this is my second this year and I intend to do one more, so why have I increased my work schedule? Truthfully because I am loving the whole crypto thing and I want to add more to the portfolio without having to use any savings. So what do you tell someone you do with the rest of your time. On one hand it would be nice to 'orange pill' someone, but on the other hand, to me that would bring a responsibility that I do not want. If I were to say 'hey we are making money from crypto' perhaps you should try' and they then do not do any research and lose it all I would feel terrible.
We ourselves have had a few mishaps along the way, I think most do BUT the one thing we always do lots of is research and even then you can get it wrong. I am convinced that Bitcoin is the way to go for the long term, I also enjoy trying new things, a few alts here and there, still looking for a wild card, we may even do a little more DeFi in the future
Both sets of parents have the simple version of what we are doing but neither understand or are interested themselves (not in a bad way, just that they are happy to just leave their money in the bank!) They ask how our 'thing' is doing but they possibly think we are a little crazy. So how would a 'normal' person react when you say well I invest in crypto currencies!
Even down to 'what did you do today while you were off?' 'Oh, I wrote a post for my blog'. 'Cool what is it about?' 'Crypto'........Glazed eyes look in response, most people do not know what crypto is, some may have heard about Bitcoin and they think it is just a made up type of money backed by nothing! Oh the irony, then that would take us to a whole different conversation about fiat, which would lead on to a conversation about CBDC's which would then leave said person looking at me like I am from Mars!
So what is the answer? What do you tell people you do?
