Happy international woman's day.
I thought I would use this day to write aboout some fun facts and influencial women in crypto.
- In 2023, 37% of women own some crypto, which is up from 21% in 2021. eToro puts this figure at only 15%!
- Victoria Hansen was the first woman to use a Bitcoin ATM in Canada in 2013.
- Luana Pinheiro, a UFC fighter is the first womman to be paid in Bitcoin.
- Cynthia Lummis got her first Bitcoin in 2013 at $330 per BTC ( Oh how I wish I had listened to the first person who told me about Bitcoin).
- In 2022 Gloria Zhao became the first female maintainer of Bitcoin core.
- Elizabeth Stark is the co-founder and CEO of Lightning Labs.
- Yi He the co-founder of Binance.
There are also the bad women of crypto, Ruja Ignatova of the $4 billion dollar One Coin scam and Caroline Ellison who im sure everyone is aware of.
This list is not definative by any means and there are many female authors on crypto as well as NFT artists and VC's and traders. Also please don't get me wrong, there are some 'women crypto' groups' I wouldn't even consider joining after just a cursory glance!
To be honest, with crypto of all things, to buy, trade or HODL, it can be done from the comfort of your own home so who is to know what gender you are! If you like something just do it......
As for the workplace in Crypto I would not know but in my old career I employed the best person for the job, whether it was a man or a woman, I would like to imagine that those priciples still apply!
