Non-Binary, Disabled Pro-Humanist Minister, Uncontested Whistleblower, and Former City Employee Retaliated Against in Cook County Court
CHICAGO, IL — In a disturbing pattern of judicial and legal misconduct, Minister X’RRay Roger Byrd, America’s first openly Non-Binary Pro-Humanist Minister and founder of the Pro-Humanist Church of GDMMNTR, has faced systematic retaliation and religious persecution in the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Domestic Relations Division.
Minister Byrd, a disabled clergy member and former City of Chicago employee, filed a formal Memorandum of Law on May 27, 2025, objecting to ex parte communications, religious discrimination, gender misidentification, and violations of due process. Despite this legally grounded filing, neither Legal Aid Chicago representatives nor Judge Robert Johnson acknowledged or addressed the serious constitutional claims raised.
Court transcripts and witness testimony reveal that Byrd was misgendered and excluded from critical conversations in violation of both the Illinois Human Rights Act and the ADA. Additionally, Minister Byrd’s religious fee schedule and whistleblower status—lawfully filed—were deliberately ignored, further fueling claims of targeted retaliation.
Legal Aid Chicago attorneys like Emma McMullen and former hired attorney Stephen Komie are alleged to have participated in or failed to stop ex parte conduct, intentionally misgendering Minister Byrd, while Judge Robert Johnson allowed discriminatory actions to continue unchecked on multiple occasions. Minister Byrd's role as an uncontested whistleblower and former city employee exposing misconduct within city governance has made them a target of systemic abuse.
“Cook County's Domestic Relations Court has become a political theater where justice for disabled, non-binary clergy is trampled for the comfort of the status quo,” said Minister Byrd. “This is not just my story—this is a reflection of what happens when you dare to challenge the hidden corruption of a CIS-gendered, binary-ruled system that favors CIS-gendered licensed litigants. ”
Minister X’RRay Roger Byrd is now seeking other avenues to expose this corruption further through federal review, whistleblower protection under the Illinois Whistleblower Act, and filing complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice, EEOC, and Judicial Inquiry Board of Illinois.
