There are no reports and articles online to verify how this works. But maybe, this is only a market test on how Japanese users accept this feature since they support the cashless transaction.
And why only in Japan?
Different countries have different rules of law. In Japan, they are now in the transition from a cash-based society to a digital cashless transaction. This is only the first step since japan is lagging behind the use of cashless payment and the Japanese elderly doesn’t support this kind of automation and they prefer a cash-based society.
