If you enjoy listening to music on YouTube you may have already found some uploads with the name… “8D Songs”, but what is this anyway?
Essentially 8D music takes advantage of a technology present in virtual reality that allows an immersive listening experience.
The term "8D" means that the music audio has been programmed to echo in various directions.
As in virtual reality, audio frequencies begin to circulate through the listener's head.
That is, 8D audio circulates in 8 different directions, projecting a sense of being present where the music was recorded.
Check out an example of a song using 8D technology
If you put your headphones on to hear this version of the song “Wake Me Up,” you probably noticed that the sound seems to echo from various directions.
8D songs bring a new way of listening to music, many people commented that hearing these new versions had the feeling of being physically where the music was recorded.
Some experts disagree with the "8D" rating, saying it's just an improved version of 3D music.
But what really matters is not nomenclature, 3D, 4D, 5D or 8D, but that this technology enables a new user experience.
A little bit of history about 8D music creation
The origins of 8D audio come from the 1980s, with the creation of an Argentine engineer, Hugo Zuccarelli.
He started a project that allowed audio spatialization by manipulating the auditory waves to appear to come from various directions.
Of course the technology has been totally improved, and the result we get today is incredibly better.
