Uphold introduces 'AutoPilot' feature for recurring trades

In all honesty, I wouldn't have an account with the trading platform Uphold if I didn't use the browser Brave. The two have partnered together, meaning that any Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) I earn in Brave can easily be transferred to Uphold then converted to fiat or a different crypto.

As a result, it's easy to forget that Uphold is more than just a convenient way to manage my BAT earnings. Every time I discover a useful feature in Uphold, I'm a little surprised. And it happened again recently when I stumbled across the option to make recurring trades.

It's called AutoPilot, and it's available on mobile and desktop. For mobile you will need the latest version of the app (4.9.0 or later), while on desktop you will need to be in 'new' Uphold (AKA the New Web Wallet). Once you have logged into Uphold on desktop as usual, you should see a small prompt at the top saying:

Uphold just got better! 0% trading commissions, 0% deposit/withdrawal fees, and 100% easier to use. Try now

Click on this, and you will be taken through to a very different looking interface. Gone is the visual metaphor of presenting your holdings as 'cards' (which I quite liked, but I suspect I was in the minority). And prominently on the right, in the 'Anything to Anything' section, you will see the option to select 'Repeat' trades.

Just as I was about to write this article, Uphold did me a huge service by emailing me some information about AutoPilot and repeat trades generally. So I can somewhat automate this piece by quoting directly from that email:

Dollar Cost Averaging is an investment strategy that reduces the impact of volatility on an overall purchase and, according to some experts, can get results that are as good, or better, than aiming to buy low and sell high.

Our new AutoPilot feature makes it easier for you to buy your favourite crypto daily, weekly, or monthly by allowing you to schedule recurring transactions. For example, you might choose to buy $100 of Bitcoin every month to coincide with your paycheck.

Simply choose the ‘repeat’ tab when making a transaction and schedule daily, weekly or monthly with defined start and end dates, or a set number of occurrences. No more missing out through forgetfulness.

And for any visual learners out there, Uphold has also put together a YouTube video showing you how to set automatic transactions in the app:

Finally there's also a short FAQ about AutoPilot on the Uphold website.

If you have somewhat neglected your Uphold account, do check out the latest version of the mobile app or the New Web Wallet. New features such as AutoPilot are bringing it more in line with competitors such as Coinbase and warrant it another look.
