Blockstream is a blockchain development company that is building several products on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. Founded in 2014 by Adam Back and several other developers, Blockstream has described its mission as building the financial infrastructure of the future, and its long term outlook as being focused on robust and scalable solutions as well as the strengthening of the Bitcoin ecosystem and protocol.
Blockstream’s products, which range from implementations of the Lightning Network to data feeds and mining services, is perhaps what has resulted in successful funding rounds. The company has raised $76 million so far, including investments from Horizons Ventures and Mosaic Ventures.
Specifically, Blockstream’s products are Liquid, a Bitcoin-based inter-exchange settlement network; a real time and historical cryptocurrency data feed; Blockstream Green, a secure Bitcoin wallet; Blockstream Satellite, a network of satellites that broadcast the Bitcoin node; Blockstream Mining, a co-location mining service; and a Bitcoin blockchain explorer.
2019 saw Blockstream revealed multiple core products. The Blockstream Mining and Pool was released in August, and is a mining equipment co-location “designed to meet the needs of institutional and enterprise customers.” The team also released Liquid Core, a multiplatform desktop wallet. Several tokens also integrated with the Liquid Network.
The company is also putting a wealth of resources into research. Current initiatives include work on Bitcoin scaling solution, the Lightning Network, and confidential assets, relating to truly anonymous transactions. The company has released whitepapers on pegged sidechains and the aforementioned confidential assets.
