INTRODUCTION: The Discovery
At the beginning of my fitness career, I had no idea what I was doing, nor what I should be doing. My family members have never read a single book about nutritionism, nevertheless, they haven't hesitated from making clueless comments regarding the optimal diet. As a naive young person that was programmed to listen to the parents and never question their attitudes, I followed their opinions which resulted in bowls of pasta mixed with sugar right after the gym.
"My body needs everything, so I can't make a mistake by eating this!" is one hell of a mental program! A month after, I became slightly irritated by the amount of effort I've been investing into my body, without seeing almost any positive result. That made me start researching! A friend of mine told me "You should eat fat and proteins, not carbohydrates", so which I replied "I should be drinking alcohol to be sober, too", cause 2+2 equals 4, right? Not in this case!
My arrogance and ignorance were disproven. I apologized once I realized he was right. I realized the very first step towards a fit and healthy body is the right diet. That also includes drinks. So, I excluded milk and sugar from the coffee and stopped drinking sodas. But something was missing. What could I drink except the water and black coffee, I wondered... there has to be something, right? That something is cacao.
CACAO, THE FOOD OF THE GODS
In the Mayan culture, cacao was praised for its nutritional value. It was called the food of Gods, due to its richness in healthy fats, proteins, and fiber. Europeans were also aware of cacao's health properties, however, they could rarely grab a hold of it. I will provide you with an example of cacao's miraculous nutritional properties! My favorite producer is "Nutrigold", and here is what their cacao offers:
(Fats: 11g / Carbohydrates: 14g (0 grams of sugar) / Fiber: 33g / Proteins: 24.1g)
I found this to be an extraordinary offer because they offer one kilogram of eco-cacao for only 7 Euros.
Seeds and nuts, in general, offer high nutritional values, but some seeds and nuts (such as peanuts, and flax seeds) are rich in estrogen, which is why men shouldn't be consuming them. However, cacao is the complete opposite! It actually boosts testosterone and offers much-needed minerals: zinc, potassium, copper, magnesium, calcium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, and iron.
Cacao is also a great source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, E, and K! I should also mention that cacao contains polyphenols!
Mayan culture wasn't mistaken, after all. This really is the food for God. However, let me warn you of the differences between cacao and cocoa! Many people think those two powders are the same!
Cocoa: heat refined, processed, with added flavors and sweeteners. Contains low levels of cacao, causes weight gain, offers no vitamins and minerals.
Cacao: nutritional bomb, rich with minerals and vitamins. Aids weight loss promotes healthy skin and boosts testosterone production. Enhances mood (due to Phenylethylalanine, antioxidants, and polyphenols), promotes the health of the cardiovascular system and improves brain functions
Let me know if you like cacao as much as I do! In addition, I may suggest one more KETO-friendly nutritional drink. It's the so-called "Ivan's tea", made of the Siberian wildflowers. Take care and have a great day! ✌🏻😊
