De Novo
So full of fear.
Desperate to hear.
A sound that was made.
Your reason to hate.
Y’all cling along.
Right the same wrong.
A massive attack.
An old enemy’s back.
I hear on the news.
The same song. The same blues.
With their heads full of beef.
Inviting the thief.
You will learn you’re a clown.
When your friends gun you down.
The buildup. The release.
Let the ceasefire cease.
At home, servers do not protect.
Pleading a raise, demanding respect.
Borrowed colors smeared on a flag.
God took the bait. A rainbow of hate.
I hear the shouts, “Infant slayer!”
A blind cat. Mice without ears.
Here we are again.
Has it been eighty years?
