Introduction: My Crypto-Journey

Greetings,

I'm Kenneth, though most people around the internet know me by my handle, Philoveritas79. I'm a man of diverse interests, a blogger for 7 years on a vast array of topics including crypto-currency. I thought what better way to get started writing on this platform than to share with you the story of how and why I got into crypto-currency more than a decade ago...

The decade of the 2000's was winding down, it had been a tumultuous and eventful span of years that had seen great technological advancements like the widespread adoption of the internet and the dawn of social media, but it was also a time of great conflict, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq shaped the world-order of this new millennium. The economy was booming, fuelled by all-time-high real-estate and oil prices. For a young man whom had spent the first-half of the decade hustling and grinding, fresh out of high-school into a career in international capital markets and investment banking, life was prosperous, yet the entire monetary system was about to nearly collapse so spectacularly that it's effects are still felt today...

I can't say that I was surprised when the bubble finally did burst in late 2008, in-fact I had been personally involved in some of the events that led up to the crash some years earlier while under the employ of one of the mega-giant Wall St. investment banks. I had fled 'The Street' some months earlier in anticipation of a downturn to the safety of the public-sector working in economic policy. I was uniquely positioned to witness first-hand both the run-up and the aftermath of the entire crisis from different sides of the table. If you would like a fairly accurate depiction of the true causes of the meltdown, I would suggest The Big Short, a Hollywood movie that's surely more entertaining than any dry academic paper I could point you to...

From my time in the halls of economic power I had learned a lot of lessons. One of them was that the theories espoused in contemporary economics simply did not apply to the practical realities of the modern economy. I could go on at length, but the easiest summation I can give is that the current monetary system of central-bank issued fiat currency and poorly-regulated fractional reserve banking that dominates the markets of the 'Free World' is an elaborate and deliberately convoluted game that people in power have rigged in their favour for centuries. It was a game I had grown tired of playing...

I was on one of the many economics-focused chat-forums that I frequented one day when I saw a post with a link to a technical-paper. The poster, one Satoshi Nakamoto, claimed to have developed a decentralized, peer-to-peer money system that was superior, in many ways to our current system. I devoured the White Paper, marveling at the potential for counter-economic chaos, though admittedly puzzled by the cryptographic technicalities...

So I'm sure by this point you expect this story to take a happy-turn, like I fired-up my cpu and mined thousands of bitcoins in the early days and hodled until this day, now a fabulously wealthy man...Not so much...Although I did see the immediate potential and even mined a few early coins(lost the keys) I honestly expected that the banksters of the global power-elite would find a way to outlaw it. I never really jumped in with both feet. I didn't have enough faith to invest any real-money into the space, only mining and trading on a hobby-level ever since...

I'm a true believer though, over the past decade-plus the entire crypto-space has withstood the test of time. I've seen a whole lot of things come and go in that time as well, coins by the thousands, projects that never got of the ground and a hillarious number of scams and hacks. I plan on bringing you these stories, and advice on this blog in the near future. So follow me and make sure to tip...
