I am making money online full-time. After I lost my job during the last lockdown, I had no choice except to start looking for work online. Well, I am not earning much even though I am working full time online but I am happy. I am happy not because I am earning more but because there is no one who dictates me and I can choose to work according to my mood. Do I consider myself successful? Or was I more successful when I was working on a job?

 What Exactly is Success?

It depends on how you define success. I label myself as a successful person even though I do not earn more than $600 per month. The reason I label myself as a successful person is that I have been able to maintain my life without actually working for a company. I do not have anyone to dictate me and I am free to do whatever I want to do.

Some people do not have to work hard to become successful. Success comes naturally to them. Look at the second generation or third generation businessmen, they are successful without any hard work. They are reaping the benefit from something they did not create, they are running a successful enterprise that they did not create. They are successful just because their fathers and grandfathers built a successful company, business, or enterprise. However, most people have to work hard yet they cannot become successful. When I was working in a company, my boss was considered a successful businessman, but it was not the company he founded.

How to Become Successful in Freelance Marketplace?

I use upwork for freelancing jobs. I make $100 per week on average. I do 2 jobs per week on average, which means I am making $50 per job on average. If I was doing at least 5 jobs per week and consistently doing 5 jobs every week for 4 weeks, I would be easily making $1000 per month, but sadly my success rate on upwork is just 80 percent. I have also registered on other freelancing platforms like Fiverr and People Per work, but I have not been able to make money on these two freelancing platforms. But I am still trying.

You can make money on Fiverr as a writer, but the market is very competitive and as a newbie, I really doubt that you will succeed. There are a lot of freelancing platforms where you can earn as a writer but almost all of these platforms are very competitive and newbies will have to work really hard to become successful. The best way to earn as a writer is to post on paid-to-post platforms like forums and article sites.

When I started on youtube I did a lot of research on the type of content that gets better traction on youtube. I choose a niche based on my finding. Sadly, the niche I choose was not something I was very knowledgeable about. That's why I could not be successful. If you start a channel in a niche that you do not know much about, there is no way you can be successful on youtube.

I was once very active on youtube, however, when I started my blog, I became less active on youtube and when my blog started to make money, I have almost forgotten my youtube channel. I gave up youtube not because my blog started earning, I gave up youtube because my channel was yet to reach the monetization threshold. Does Passion Guarantee Success

I was passionate about literature. If I had pursued literature, I would not have been able to may my life ends. Therefore, I chose to study something that could make me a lot of money and I could live an easy life. Life is a rate race, you cannot do everything for your personal happiness.

I chose my career for two reasons. I was interested in programming, therefore, I enrolled in a programming course. I also wanted to make a lot of money from my chosen vocation, therefore, I chose to program. I believe you should choose a career for these two reasons. You need money in your life,l, therefore, you need to choose a vocation that will make you a lot of money, you also need to be passionate about the career option you are going to choose because if you are not passionate, you will be unable to make money because you cannot concentrate on the work. You cannot just put a blame on society just because it demands something from you, you need to think we have come this far because of our adaptability.

I know a lot of people who do not have any passion for writing but are good at writing, so they are earning well from writing. I think more than passion, you need to master the language that you have chosen to write and master the craft of writing. I don't think passion is necessary.

Let us be clear, no one does a business just because he is passionate about doing business. If passion was the main reason behind doing a business why do people worry about loss and why do they care so much about profit? Shouldn't they be just happy because they are following their passion for doing a business?

Do You Really Need to Be Passionate About Your Work

In order to make money from something, you need to be passionate about it. Hobbies are the pastime activities that you are passionate about and also bring you joy and pleasure. Interestingly, you can turn your hobby into a business. However, your hobbies need to be bankable, i.e. should have commercial value.

You need to be passionate about your chosen career, if you are not passionate about your career choice, you may not be able to develop the necessary skills and knowledge, and you may not be able to work efficiently. If you do not acquire the necessary skills and knowledge, and if you cannot work efficiently, you will never be able to build a successful career. However, you also need to consider money, you need to see how much money you can generate from your chosen career because after all, you need money in your life, if you do not earn enough you will end up living a miserable life.

How Far Can You Go To Become Successful

I was once in a grocery store with my co-worker. We were going back to our home from the office and decided to do some shopping on the way. There we met our boss’s wife. She had bought a lot of items and was having trouble carrying the items to the parking lot. My co-worker offered his help and carried everything to the car. Later, I asked, why did you do that? He said, “If you want to impress your boss, you first need to impress his wife.”

Our company was a small team of 20 workers and the boss used to invite us for his daughter’s birthday.  More than 50 percent of staff reached the boss’s house early and offered to help in blowing the balloons, decorating the room, etc. They were trying to impress the boss.

Was it necessary?  I don’t know! Out of my office, I never did anything for the boss!

In December 2020, I challenged myself to start writing on forums and make money by writing forum posts. Prior to writing forum posts, I had never written anything except the copy for the software I was supposed to build.

When I was working for a software company, I pressured myself to perform better, work better and come up with the best result.  I pressurized myself to excel so that I will be entitled to a new project and can impress my boss and the client.
