3 easy ways to get free crypto

Over the past couple of months I've been seeing how many ways there are to earn crypto without either building a mining machine or paying money.

Coinbase.com

The best effort to reward was from coinbase.com. They have a learn to earn function which netted me roughly 10 dollars worth of crypto currency spread across 3 different cryptos.

Pros

  • The actual earning is quick.
  • You might actually learn something about crypto.

Con

  • you need to have a coinbase.com account which requires verification which can be a bit of a pain.
  • It's a one time thing.

Conclusion

Easy money if you already have a coinbase account, and even if you don't.

Smiles

Smiles is a pedometer app that rewards users for reaching certain step-counts with Staotoshi. Staotoshi are 1 millionth of a bitcoin so it takes a while to add up. In addition to earning there are other ways to earning sats on Smiles including cashback, the fortune wheel, and the odd survey. The fortune wheel can be activated once every 12 hours and has a chance of giving out anything from 0-420 sats.

Pros

  • Continual earning for something you likely already do. The minimum step to earn anything is 1000 so that's pretty easy.
  • If you're like me it helps encourage you to go for a walk.
  •

Con

  • The earning is slow. I've been using it for about 4 weeks and earned on average 10 cents a week. However I rarely go over more then 5K steps. If you are regularly walking over 10K steps you'll likely do much better than I.
  • Privacy. In order to earn based on steps you need to give the app permission to see your steps on your phone.
  • You also need a lightning compatible wallet. This isn't hard to set up.
  • Smiles also has a minimum withdrawal of 100 sats and takes a small cut of the amount transferred out. (roughly 1%)

Conclusion

It's a nice little way to earn a tiny bit of money. It's not going to make you rich, but it might help motivate you to be a little more active.

Brave Rewards

The brave browser is a chromium based browser that allows you to earn their crypto BAT(basic attention token) for looking at advertisements.

Pros

  • Easy set up. Just install the browser, turn on brave rewards and you can now earn some BATS.
  • Saying you own bats is fun.
  • BATS can also be used to tip people and websites on the internet which is cool.
  • If you're a creator you can set it up that you can get tips from other Brave Rewards users.
  •

Con

  • Requires use of brave browser
  • You have to look at adds
  • Limited wallet connections. Currently Brave rewards only connects to Gemini and upload and Gemini has a 2bat minimum requirement.

Conclusion

Brave rewards will not make you rich, but it will make you 2-5 usd a month in crypto without doing much.

Hope this has been information and helpful. These are things I've found neat as I've dipped my toe into the world of crypto currencies.
