I couldn't sleep. It was 3am or so and decided to start making the skull artwork I had been thinking about doing. One thing led to another and I ended up taking the time to create this final image which was not what I initially had in mind.
A common concept about brain function that has been misrepresented by the public a lot is the Lateralization of Brain Function, which basically means that certain thoughts and behaviors are controlled by a certain half the brain more than the other. In popular culture, the idea of people being Left Brained vs Right Brained is a very oversimplified and widespread theory that's probably mostly used as a marketing thing more than anything.
Anyways, if you're not familiar, the idea goes that people who are "Left-Brain Dominant" tend to be more analytical, logical, structured, organized, etc., while "Right-Brain Dominant" people are more creative, artistic, spontaneous, free-thinkers, non-conformists, and so on.
The other (more accurate and scientific) concept about the brain present in the GIF is that the coordination of your body is done by the half of your brain on the opposite side of the action. For example, your left arm is controlled by your brain's right hemisphere - and vice versa. By the way, I'm not an expert in neuro-biology by any stretch of the imagination so I probably got some of the explanations wrong.
Side Note: I'm just now realizing that I accidentally made the clinically defined left hemisphere the colorful one and not the right. I told you I'm not a brain surgeon.
If you like this or any of the others pieces I've made, I'd appreciate if you helped spread it around by liking or retweeting it on Twitter!
