My thoughts on fast-food

You want links? here's a selection from the super easy google search "are fast food salads healthy" in general they all say "The salad dressings, plus the add-ons [bacon, cheese, deep fried bowl?!?] that are typically found on fast food (and even 'regular' restaurant food) salads make them not so good for you. https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/how-healthy-are-fast-food-salads#1 https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/think-fast-food-salad-is-healthier-think-again/article4103899/ https://spoonuniversity.com/lifestyle/5-reasons-fast-food-salads-arent-healthy-think I'm not here to discuss politics, conspiracy theories, religion, or general trolling. I don't appreciate the insinuation that I blindly consume 'news media' without vetting the source I'm interacting with, and will not be pursuing this line of conversation further. You're right, a person could order an unsweetened coffee, but that does not seem like a reasonable expectation of someone replacing a fizzy sugar drink. I'll compromise on that point and suggest they simply order a water as that's the healthiest drink option anyway. The point still stands that a fast food salad generally isn't actually a healthier choice than a burger of similar protein content.

A grilled chicken on a (fast food) salad, with a coffee (probably sweetened) is going to be about as awful for you as a breaded chicken burger combo... of course KFC doesn't actually make meal salads that I know of (potato, macaroni, coleslaw typically.. side salads) so I can't compare apples to apples, but it's been well documented that fast food salads in general aren't that good for you.. I take a bit of issue with you randomly throwing in a line of '...fast food these days are under such strict regulations that they too ... probably just as healthy as the good place' you have no supporting evidence there, you don't explain yourself, and as I'm sure you know regulations vary from region to region so even if that statement is true where you are it's reckless to say it as though it's a global fact.

I think when we talk about healthy food being expensive, we're a bit off point. Healthy food is generally less expensive than unhealthy food, however there is a large opportunity cost to eating 'slow' food. At the least it takes longer to prepare it yourself (which is where you'd find the most savings), or on the other hand, you have to pay someone more to make it for you (and since it takes longer to prepare it costs more to have someone take the time to make it). Add to that the various food industries trying to convince us that 'their' food is the best for us, leads to a lot of every day people confused about what is or isn't 'healthy'. I think better access to inexpensive healthy food would be a good start, but we also need to change the way we look at food. You wouldn't replace motor oil in your car with cooking oil just because it was cheap and convenient.. so why replace food with 'junk' for the same reason?
